EPISODE 11 - DICK PIC-FREE ZONE | OITNB ACTRESS ASHLEY JORDYN ON #STARTBYBELIEVING | STOP THE ANTI-LGBTQ SB17 | GERRYMANDERING, THE BOARD GAME!
This might be our fav ep so far. We welcome OITNB actress Ashley Jordyn to talk about #StartByBelieving day April 3 and how we can support survivors. We are FOR HB2789, which would make sending unwanted dick pics a crime, and we are AGAINST SB17, which would make it easier for bigots to discriminate against the LGBTQJ+ community.
This episode of The Rabble is brought to you by “Supper Club Szn” by Puli.Ra and the Austin Winery. Each month’s dinner features a specially curated wine selection and menu dreamed up by chef Deepa Shridhar who combines her deep South Indian roots, Nordic pragmatism, and super fresh Texas ingredients to make some crazy delicious shit happen. The April 28 “Sunday Best” dinner features an all vegetarian 4 course meal, plus a bottle of Austin Winery’s yet-to-be-released Sparkling Gewurtz. Plus there’s a swag bag. Plus, there’s a Chance the Rapper inspired playlist. Mark your calendar for “C’est Si Orange,” a duck dinner on May 19.

THIS WEEK’S GUEST:
Ashley Jordyn, Orange Is the New Black actress and advocate for End Violence Against Women International
SH*T TO DO:
Senate Bill 17 would prevent state licensing agencies from denying or revoking licenses from professionals – including doctors, lawyers, pharmacists, and even barbers – if they claim to be following a “sincerely held religious belief.”
Licenses to discriminate like SB 17 allow disapproval of (and refusal to serve) LGBTQ Texans, single mothers, unwed couples, interfaith couples, and more. For example, a local pediatrician could refuse to care for the child of a same-sex couple and the state licensing agency wouldn’t be able to address the pediatrician’s unprofessional behavior, or a pharmacist could refuse - without professional consequence - to dispense anti-retroviral drugs because of their religious views on HIV and AIDS.
After the hearing the committee voted to advance SB 17 in a 7-1 vote. All the Republicans on the committee and state senator Eddie Lucio Jr. (D) voted in favor of the bill, and state senator Judith Zaffirini (D) voted against it. The bill is now on the way to the Senate floor, and we still have time to contact your State Senator and urge them to reject this harmful piece of legislation.
Send a message to your State Senator and ask them to reject SB 17! Here's the link: https://act.hrc.org/page/40716/action/1?ea.url.id=2399531&forwarded=true

But we need to get HB2789 out of committee first. Please email all the reps on the Criminal Jurisprudence committee and tell them: "Unwanted sexual photos are a serious problem in our state. If a man exposes himself to me on the street it is a crime -- it should be a crime if he does the same thing via computer or phone. Please vote HB2789 out of committee."
